Multilateral Exercises Strengthen Philippine Maritime Patrols

  In early 2026, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) announced that multilateral maritime cooperative activities (MMCAs) with allied nations are now part of its official operational design. This development comes after repeated encounters with Chinese vessels in the West Philippine Sea, where swarms of coast guard and militia ships have raised concerns about security and freedom of navigation. The AFP explained that these exercises are no longer just training drills, but actual patrol maneuvers meant to protect Philippine waters.
